Hamels hoping to get on track in Phils' finale with Brewers
Baseball Betting Lines
04/23/2009 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Cole Hamels' stellar 2008 postseason began with a home win
over Milwaukee. Off to a slow start this year, the Philadelphia Phillies hope
Hamels can recapture some of that magic this afternoon in the finale of a
three-game series with the Brewers from Citizens Bank Park.
Hamels won four of his five postseason starts last year, pitching to a 1.80
earned run average while helping the Phillies to their first World Series
championship since 1980. His postseason run, which included MVP honors in both
the World Series and NLCS, began at home versus the Brewers in Game 1 of the
NLDS on October 1.
The left-hander was outstanding on that day, holding Milwaukee to just two
hits and a walk with nine strikeouts over eight shutout innings in the
victory. In five regular-season starts versus the Brewers, Hamels is 2-1 with
a 4.41 ERA.
However, 2009 hasn't gotten off to a great start for the 25-year-old. He
battled elbow problems in spring training and was tagged for seven runs in
just 3 2/3 innings in a loss to Colorado on April 10 to begin his season.
Hamels then took the hill Friday to face the Padres and allowed five runs on
eight hits -- three of those homers -- in six innings. He did lower his ERA
from 17.18 to 11.17 in the no-decision.
The Brewers counter with right-hander Dave Bush, who has yet to post a
decision in his two starts this year. He faced the Mets on Friday and was
charged with three runs on seven hits and three walks over six innings of
work.
Bush has faced Philadelphia six times in his career and has yet to post a
decision against them while pitching to a 5.88 ERA. However, he did get a win
over the Phils in Game 3 of the NLDS, allowing a run in 5 1/3 innings of work.
In three starts at Citizens Bank Park, Bush has a 4.86 ERA.
The Phillies took the opener of this set in a convincing 11-4 fashion on
Tuesday, but their bats went cold in last night's 3-1 setback. Philadelphia
didn't cross the plate until Jayson Werth's solo homer in the ninth inning of
Todd Coffey, who still picked up his second save of the season.
Philadelphia's Chase Utley had a hit to extend his on-base streak to 33 games,
the longest active streak in the majors. He is 4-for-9 lifetime versus Bush
with a homer and three walks.
Teammate Raul Ibanez, meanwhile, went 1-for-4 on Wednesday to improve his
hitting streak to nine games. He is hitting .432 (16-for-37) with four homers,
eight runs batted in and 10 runs scored over the burst.
Joe Blanton (0-2) gave up three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts to
take the loss for the Phillies, the club's fourth in six games.
J.J. Hardy went 2-for-3 with a solo home run for the Brewers, while Mike
Cameron finished 1-for-4 with a two-run double. Cameron is batting .355 (11-
for-31) with three homers, six RBI and six runs scored over his last eight
games.
Corey Hart went 2-for-4 with a run scored for Milwaukee, which had lost three
of its previous four outings. Braden Looper (2-0) allowed five hits in a
scoreless six-inning start to collect the win.
The Phillies won five of six regular-season matchups versus the Brewers last
year, including a four-game sweep at home from September 11-14, before winning
the postseason's opening round in four games.

American Idol Betting Odds: Season 6
The online gambling websites are in the process of deciphering each American Idol contestant and his or her chances of winning Season 6 to come up with the early American Idol betting lines.
Tim Dalton of MySportsbook.com has been locked away in a soundproof room coming up with all the latest tallies, we are told. "American Idol has become one of the most significant betting events of the year," claims Jack Black of MySportsbook.com. "Last year, millions were bet during the season across the globe, not just in America.
It's tough early on since we really do not have a glimpse as to how well each of these individuals will perform solo on a week-to-week basis. It's like Week 1 of the NFL. Pre-season means nada!
We do know the 24 finalists however.
Sanjaya Malakar is the young man whose sister failed to make it into the Top 24. He's very low key but - unless he totally flubs - will probably win over the young girlie vote for a few weeks anyway. He's too young to go all the way, according to Payton O'Brien.
Brandon Rogers - Who?
Phil Stacy is the military guy who missed his daughter's birth because of the Memphis audition. He should go a good distance.
Chris Sligh - He's got the humor and in many ways he's the Anti-American Idol much like last year's winner Taylor Hicks was. And this is why he'll probably get pretty far in this competition. He's chubby, white with a big curly afro....but more importantly, a great voice! People love "real", not "real cute" to go all the way.
"Blake Lewis should go far because of his uniqueness and looks. He's the boy next store with a twist - he beat boxes. But on top of this, he's a great singer, and I adore him," Payton O'Brien relayed.
A talented beat-boxer Blake Lewis was a hit during the group sing in Hollywood but Simon explained that this is a singing contest just before he told him he was “in.”
Paul Kim has caught our own roving reporter, Jenny Woo's eyes.
"I love the fact that there is a Korean American on the show and he is bound to get more Asians tuning into the show," Woo said from her Miami Beach estate. "There has never been a major presence of Asian-Americans on American Idol in the past. He's a hottie with a nice voice so that should help to take him far. Expect heavy betting action from the Asian community."
Sundance Head - He's not perfect, but he's got the personality that will take him through a few weeks, plus he's got the lineage (son of Roy Head - whose 1965 single, "Treat Her Right," hit No. 5 in the charts)
And the others:
Rudy Cardinas
AJ Tabaldo - the 5th time is the charm
Nicolas Pedro
Chris Richardson
Jared Cotter
The girls
"Melinda Doolittle has one of the best voices," says MySportsbook.com Reporter and an acclaimed dancer in her own right, Destiney Lewis. "It is great to see a back up singer step out like she has. The girl needs to gain more confidence but that can also be a positive. I think she will go far."
Alena Alexander - Those tears (she never seems to stop bawling) should get her far.
"Single mom Lakisha Jones I suspect will be a pretty big favorite entering Week 1 of the competition," says Destiny Williams. Jones is an excellent singer and down to earth. "She'll have a wide appeal," echoed O'Brien.
Nicole Trellis - Seems to exert confidence.
Amy Krebs - a powerful singer.

Why Sports Betting is so much fun?
Betting Sports
The most popular sports to bet on are NFL and college football along with NBA and NCAA basketball. There are multiple betting opportunities within those sports, beginning with the basic wager on a game’s outcome (also called betting the side). College Football Point spreads are used in both football and basketball in an attempt to even the attractiveness of each team in a match-up. ( See our article detailing how and why point spreads are made)
But you could also simply bet on the money line, or straight-up winner of the game. Oddsmakers use the money line so that more money must be risked on the favorite or expected winner and less money on the underdog to balance the action on both sides. While money line gambling is an attractive option for football and basketball bettors who only care about picking a winner, it is the primary option for those bettors who enjoy wagering on MLB baseball and individual sports like boxing, tennis, golf and racing events such as NASCAR. ( More details on playing the Money Line)
Points (or Runs) Scored
Another bet across all major team sports including football, basketball, baseball, and hockey involves wagering on the amount of scoring in a game, called an Over/Under total. For example, the Over/Under total on Super Bowl XXXIX was 48, which means a bettor could wager whether there would be more or less than 48 points scored by both teams combined in the game.
The final score of Super Bowl XXXIX was 24-21; the scoring of both teams added up to 45, which means the game went Under . So Under bettors won, and Over bettors lost.
Future Bets
Sports gambling doesn’t end there. Betting sides and totals are the most common wagers available everywhere, but many sportsbooks also offer future bets on big upcoming events like who will win next year’s Super Bowl and what movie will win Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
The main advantage of futures is that you can get appealing odds by betting far in advance. For example, with NFL futures you often can get much higher odds on a team by betting before the season even starts. A NFL future bet on a team to win the Super Bowl odds might be 20/1 in the preseason; but by midseason, their odds might decrease to 10/1 if they turn out to be legitimate championship contenders.
Proposition Bets (or Prop Bets)
Proposition bets , also known as prop bets, focus upon the more exotic aspects of a game and are generally reserved for events that are widely televised. Prop bets are extremely popular when it comes to wagering on the Super Bowl in Las Vegas. The Imperial Palace Casino’s sportsbook is well-known for the enormous number of prop bets offered. For example, you can bet on:
- What team will win the coin toss
- What player will score the game’s first touchdown
- What will be the exact margin of victory
Types of Bets
Straight Bet
Involves one individual wager, whether it be on your team to cover the point spread, to win the game straight-up on the money line, or to go over/under the total.
A parlay is a single bet that links together two or more individual wagers and is dependent on all of those wagers winning together. The benefit of the parlay bet is much better odds than placing each individual bet separately since the difficulty of hitting it is much higher.
Standard payoffs on a two-team parlay are 13/5; while a three-teamer pays 6/1; and a four-teamer 10/1.
Parlay cards are also fairly common in sportsbooks and popular with bettors, as they are released early in the week with set odds that do not change in return for a slightly lower payoff.
Round Robin Betting
Adventurous bettors who enjoy betting parlays sometimes put together a series of parlays called a Round Robin . A three-team Round Robin consists of one three-team parlay and three two-team parlays. For example, Joe likes teams A,B,C – with a Round Robin he has a three-teamer with ABC, and two-teamers with AB, AC, and BC.
Similar to a parlay, a teaser bet is a single bet that links together two or more individual wagers, but is different in that the point spread is adjusted to your advantage on each individual wager. In exchange for the points, you get less of a return on your bet compared to a parlay. For example, a 6-point teaser would move the line on a 7-point favorite from -7 to -1, meaning the team would have to cover 6 less points. Each of the individual wagers must win or the bet is a loss.
These are the main types of sports bets available today. But as sports betting continues to grow, sportsbooks will continue to develop new and creative ways to bet. We’ll continue to track these changes to the sports gambling landscape, so check back often and we’ll tell you all about it!
